SHE practically owns the best front-row seat that most UAAP basketball fans would never have.

But more than watching the Tigers from the sidelines, Accountancy junior Dianne Carmella Querrer will sit beside the UST bench as its new courtside reporter for Season 70, replacing last season’s correspondent, Donna Belle Llabres.

“The courtside reporting job came unexpectedly after I was told to audition for Studio 23 just a few weeks before the UAAP started,” Querrer told the Varsitarian. “I thought that I would not make it since I was among the last to audition.”

Although a neophyte in broadcasting, Querrer believes she can overcome on-screen jitters, having hosted several University events like the Mr. and Ms. Nursing Personality, the Mr. and Ms. Icon, and the alumni homecoming party of the Mediartrix, the University-wide multi-media organization where she is a member.

Querrer won the 2005 Miss Commerce and was second runner-up in the 2006 Mr. and Ms. Thomasian Personality.

Playing for the Accountancy women’s basketball team has also given Querrer working knowledge of the hoop sport.

“I think that the experience I had as a varsity player was a factor during my audition since they want a reporter who understands the game well,” said Querrer.

She described the Tigers and their coaches as “very accommodating” when they first met her during the UAAP press conference last July 2 at ABS-CBN in Quezon City.

The 18-year-old Batangas native is also the assistant secretary of the UST-Alfredo M. Velayo College of Accountancy student council.
