THE UST Tigresses evened their win-loss standing (2-2) as they routed the College of Saint Benilde Lady Blazers, 80-57, in the Fr. Martin’s Cup last May 23 at the San Beda College Gym.

Veteran Juvy Salazar gave the Tigresses an early boost on the offensive end with seven points in the first quarter, mostly on inside incursions. But it was Kath Buyco who gave the Taft-based dribblers the run-around with her outstanding ball handling and a couple of steals, leaving them scoreless during the entire half of the second canto.

Maui del Rosario took advantage of the turnover-prone Lady Blazers scoring an easy eight points on a couple of jumpers and lay-ups.

The Tigresses exploited the Lady Blazers’ incomplete line-up as they led from the start and never looked back.

By the third quarter, almost all of the Lady Blazers were slowing down as they were held scoreless in the first two minutes and experienced another drought in the last three minutes. Vargas widened the Tigresses lead, 66-45, with a lay-up.

The Tigresses, however, slowed down during the fourth quarter as turnovers slowly piled up in every attempted fastbreak. Lady Blazers’ Florida Pili and Len Rosero, however, managed to counter the jinx closing the last quarter with a 14-12 exchange.

Risha Vargas scored 11 points while team captain Aileen Arcigal churned out a double-double performance with 10 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Tigresses.

“Maganda na iyong laro nila ngayon pero I hope iyong laro nila ngayon ma-doble but less error and less fouls lalo na sa next game against Adamson,” said coach Tan.
