WITH only three championships to show after the first semester, University of Santo Tomas (UST) trails De La Salle University (DLSU) in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) general championship race with its accumulated 99 points compared to the latter’s 104.

UST’s domination of both the men’s and women’s table tennis and men’s volleyball tournament, plus several runner-up finishes, proved to be enough to keep it in pace with league-leading DLSU.

The UST Lady Spikers ended tied with the DLSU Lady Spikers in second place. Same goes with the Tiger Woodpushers as they shared runner-up honors with the University of the East Woodpushers. On the distaff side, the Tigress Woodpushers ended solo second behind the DLSU Lady Woodpushers.

In swimming, the UST Lady Tankers closed their campaign at second place behind DLSU.

As was in recent years, UST is expected to gain more points in the second semester when most of the sporting events are expected to be dominated by the España athletes. Dexter R. Matilla
