July 13, 6:32 p.m. – THE TIGRESSES survived defending champions Adamson Lady Falcons in their first game by squeezing out a 66-60 win via overtime at the Ateneo Blue Eagle Gym early this afternoon.

Guard Juvelyn Andaya made 15 points, including a back-to-back two that gave the Tigresses a four-point cushion, 62-58, in the last two minutes of the extra period.

Adamson’s Fria Bernado countered with a long jumper for a 64-60 count, with a minute and 10 ticks remaining in the game.

But it was UST’s center Mary Galicia who sealed the game with a mid-range jumper, 35 seconds remaining.

The cagebelles had forced an overtime courtesy of Andaya’s top-of-the-key triple, carving the game’s fifth deadlock at 52-all.

“The team is already intact because they were able to communicate inside the court. Their hearts are in the game,” said new coach Chris Cantonjos.

Galicia carved a double-digit performance with 14 points and 15 rebounds, while Paula Bombeo and Rina Laud clipped in nine and eight points respectively.

The Tigresses will lock horns with the Ateneo Lady Eagles this Sunday at the Ateneo Blue Eagle gym. Chenny V. Ramos
