THOMASIAN alumnus Jethro “The Jet” Dionisio led the Philippine shooting team in nabbing the Team Open division’s grand prize in the 16th International Practical Shooting Confederation World Shoot in Rhodes, Greece from October 2 to 9.

The 39-year-old six-time world pistol-shooting champion, alongside 15 other Filipino marksmen, represented the country to the Olympics of practical shooting. The squad topped the team category of Super Seniors’ division.

Dionisio also emerged as the champion in the Shoot-off event of the Production division, besting eight other gunners in the tournament.

He also ranked fourth overall in the Standard division, where he collected 1, 950 points and 95.49 percent behind Juan Carlos Jaime (Spain), and Blake Miguez and Ted Puente (USA).

The seven-day pistol war was participated by 1, 388 shooters from 66 competing nations all over the world.

“Given the number of competitors in this year’s tournament, our performance was already good,” Dionisio said.

The Philippines also ranked second in Modified, Production, and Open divisions of juniors, seniors, and general categories, respectively.

Dionisio, who finished Business Administration in 1994, is known as the fastest steel shooter alive today, being the winner of the World Speed Shooting championship crowns in 1990, 1992, and 1993.

He also represented the country in South East Asian Games, Asian Games, and 2008 Beijing Olympics.
