Dec. 3, 4:17 p.m. – THE UST Tiger Spikers swept the De La Salle University in three sets, 26-24, 25-12, 25-17, to register their first win this season in the UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan this morning.

John Depante led UST with 14 points, including 11 attacks and three blocks.

Ngayon mas naging effective ang block at service; mas tumaas ang porsiyento ng atake,” coach Emil Lontoc said. “Pero marami pa rin ang kulang para sa championship.”

Depante blasted away with kills allowing UST to take an early lead, 5-3, in the third set. But Bubbles Sumalinog and Carlo Villanueva of La Salle scored on two blocks to tie the set at 8 points apiece.

Errors easily plagued La Salle in the middle of the set, giving UST an easy 9-0 run, 18-11. The Tigers ended the battle with Christopher Rejuso and Romnick Rico’s twin block over Carlo Sendo’s attempt, 25-17.

Red Christensen and Christopher Antonio of La Salle combined for only 14 markers.

Naging mas maayos ang communication naman ngayon. Mas naging focused at nag-enjoy lang sa game,” Depante said.

The Tiger Spikers now have a 1-1 win-loss card after losing their opening game against the University of the Philippines last Sunday. Alexis U. Cerado
