Judokas collect medals in summer tournament

THE UST Judokas stomped their class in separate tournaments as part of their preparation for the next UAAP season.

The Lady Judokas finished with two pairs of gold and silver medals in the International School Manila (ISM) Judo Tournament at the ISM University Parkway in Fort Bonifacio last May 12.

Their male counterparts collected a 2-3-5 gold-silver-bronze medal haul in the One La Salle Judo championships at the De La Salle University gym last April 1.

Lady Judoka Jyniene Honorio brought home the first gold medal by defeating teammate Ednorly San Andres in the -70 kg category. Heavyweight Princess Lucman won the second hardware for UST in the +78 division at the expense of Anette Pinas from Baguio City.

Sueko Kinjho walked away with UST’s second silver medal in the -48 division against Richelle Piollo of Mapua Institute of Technology.

“I fielded the Team A players to gain exposure and experience,” said head coach Gerard Arce. 

In men’s play, Nash Tagle and Al Llamas brought home gold medals in the -60 kg open belt and open weight categories, respectively, while Season 74 Best Player Brian Llamas was good for second place in the open weight event.

Carl Navarro and Adrian Mercado also settled for second place in the -73 kg and -60 kg open weight categories, respectively. 

Last season’s top rookie Lucky Flores (-66 kg), Mafie Saclangan (-60 kg), Nomar Hilario (-73 kg), Jon Rodriguez (open belt), and Llamas (open weight) all finished third. Jan Edward B. Ballesteros and Carla Patricia S. Perez
