THE UST ultimate frisbee team captured its second bronze medal in the National Ultimate Collegiate Championship after escaping the Ateneo de Manila University, 8-5, at the Circulo Verde open field in Libis, Quezon City last April 29.

Espanya United forced a late rally against the Loyola Ultimate Disc Association despite being goalless in the soft cap period.

“I thought that what happened from last year’s tournament would happen again,” said team captain Tin Garcia, whose team lost to Ateneo in last year’s semifinals.

Coming off a 5-12 semifinal loss against De La Salle University, UST ignited a rally as Riel Margate connected on a short pass from Iñaki Melchor in the right flank for their team›s first point.

United knocked in its sixth goal via a Melchor high-pass to Alvin Pura at the end zone. UST’s Mikey Bundoc found co-team captain Jeff Loveranes in the right side to connect on a straight pass to wrap up the match.

“We really played a good defense, yet we were nervous that Loyola might get nearer,” said Garcia. “It was a good thing that we played with heart and time was not on Loyola’s side.”
