20 February 2013, 7:33 p.m. – THE UST Lady Spikers just needed to win one game to enter the Final Four and silence their doubters, but fate did not favor them this time.
The Lady Spikers got the boot in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament after succumbing to the much-improved National University, 19-25, 25-21, 16-25, 23-25, Wednesday afternoon.
Team captain Judy Caballejo, who played her final year with the Lady Spikers, and Carmela Tunay were the only UST spikers to reach the double-digit mark, scoring 15 and 12 points, respectively. Maru Banaticla continued to struggle offensively and finished with only a point.
Maricar Nepomuceno and Dindin Santiago did most of the damage for NU with 23 and 21 markers, respectively, as the Lady Bulldogs took the last Final Four slot. They will square off with defending champions De La Salle University in the semifinals.
