THE THOMASIAN Goodwill Games Volleyball Tournament kicked off this month at the P. Noval Gymnasium, featuring the University’s college volleyball teams vying for the most coveted Thomasian Goodwill Cup.

Four teams in the men’s division entered the semifinal round. Alfredo M. Velayo-College of Accountancy emerged as the top contender in men’s bracket A and will battle College of Commerce and Business Administration in Bracket D, while College of Architecture who took the top spot in Bracket B and will face College of Education in Bracket C.

In women’s Bracket A, Faculty of Engineering will clash with the Architecture in Bracket D. The Faculty of Pharmacy, which acquired the top spot in Bracket B, will attempt to dethrone defending champion Commerce in Bracket C.

“This is a great way to develop sportsmanship among Thomasians and teach students to be more active in sports,” said UST Lady Spikers assistant coach Yani Fernandez, who is also this year’s Thomasian Goodwill Games chairman.

Men’s division defending champion Faculty of Arts and Letters got the boot early in the tournament as they failed to enter the quarterfinals last Sept. 16.

For the first time, the Thomasian Goodwill Games will hold an All-star Game on Sept. 18 where two selected players from each college, one for men’s and one for women’s division, will be chosen to compete against alumni players of the UST Tiger Spikers and Lady Spikers.
