22 September 2013, 4:33 p.m. – THE UST Male Shuttlers bowed to defending champion National University, 2-3, in their playoff for the twice-to-beat advantage in the UAAP badminton tournament at the Jumpsmash badminton court in Quezon City Sunday.
UST denied NU of a sweep after Benjude Cajefe and Paul Pantig smothered their counterparts in the second doubles match, 21-8, 21-9.
Cajefe and Pantig unleashed consecutive smashes to kick off the second set, 5-0.
The Bulldogs scored only from the UST duo’s errors in that match. Cajefe and Pantig led by as much as eight points before capping the game via a Cajefe drop.
“The result was expected. They have a superior lineup,” coach Noli Cajefe said. “I saw a chance for us to win, but the boys let go of it.”
The Male Shuttlers will next face University of the Philippines in a battle for second place on Sept. 25, 9 a.m., at the same venue. Ralph Joshua D.R. Hernandez
