07 April 2014, 6:30 a.m. – COMING off a disappointing five-set loss to National University in their opening game, the UST Golden Tigresses bounced back against Far Eastern University (FEU) to snatch their first win in the Shakey’s V-League tournament.

Jessey de Leon’s 17 points, nine of them from attacks, powered the Tigresses to the 25-15,19-25, 25-18, 25-13 victory at The Arena in San Juan Sunday.

UST high school standout Ennajie Laure displayed another stellar performance with 16 markers, scoring two straight points to put the Tigresses in a comfortable 16-8 edge in the fourth set.

Laure capped the first set with a down-the-line attack to put UST in the driver’s seat before Bernadeth Pons, who had 14 points, finished the ensuing set with a crosscourt hit for FEU to tie the game at one set apiece.

It was an error-laden second set for the Tigresses as they gave up 13 free points to FEU. They limited their mistakes to only two in the third frame.

The Tigresses were aggressive from tip-off, racking up 17 attack points in the opening set against the Lady Tamaraws’ 10.

UST will next face San Sebastian College, which tapped the services of former Tigress Maru Banaticla as guest player, on April 13, 4 p.m. at the same venue. Carla Patricia S. Perez
