October 3, 2015, 7:07p.m.  – THE UST Junior Golden Tigresses wiped out the Far Eastern University Baby Tamaraws out in straight sets, 25-16, 27-25, 25-15, to notch their eighth win the UAAP Season 78 girls’ volleyball tournament at the Adamson University gym today.

UST capitalized on the Baby Tams’ faulty receptions and defensive lapses, while pounding FEU with 11 service aces. UST now holds 8-1 win-loss card.

The Tigresses built a comfortable lead in the last frame, 20-13, before pulling away with a 4-1 blitz capped by an off-the-block hit from skipper Eya Laure.

UST unleashed a 13-3 run to take the lead, 23-22, after trailing in the middle of the second set. Back-to-back errors the Baby Tams on the attack gave UST a 2-0 game advantage.

FEU kept the match close in the opening frame, 15-14, but UST banked on a 10-2 run and 12 unforced errors from the Baby Tams to close the set.

Laure had 19 points while Merrie Rose Jauculan and Regina Mangulabnan combined for 15 markers.

“Naging consistent kami sa services pero erratic pa rin ‘yung mga players [ngayon]. Masaya naman na nanalo kasi until the end nakakapit kami,” UST head coach Emilio Reyes Jr. told the Varsitarian.

The Junior Tigresses will shoot for the solo lead against the defending champions National University Lady Bullpups tomorrow, Sunday, 3 p.m., at the same venue. Carlo A. Casingcasing
