October 4, 2015, 12:50p.m. – THE UST Junior Tiger Spikers outsmarted the De La Salle-Zobel Junior Spikers, 20-25, 30-28, 25-23, 27-25 to notch their fifth win in the UAAP Season 78 boys’ volleyball tournament at the Adamson Gym Sunday.
UST kept its poise ag the end of each set to improve to a 5-5 win-loss slate, despite committing a woeful 48 unforced errors throughout the match.
La Salle-Zobel could have extended the match to a decider after taking set point, 22-24, but the Junior Tiger Spikers powered a late 5-1 spurt to steal the win.
The Junior Spikers had the lead in the middle of the third frame, 17-21, before UST fired a 8-2 run to for a 2-0 advantage.
“Maganda naman ‘yung ginawa nila, nag adjust naman sila hanggang sa matapos kaya nakuha namin ‘yung win ngayon” UST assistant coach Rommel Abella told the Varsitarian.
Clyde Cajipo led UST with 15 points while Miguel Competente and Teo De Guzman combined for 18 markers.
