March 19, 2016, 10:34p.m. – THE UST Lady Booters ran out of steam against the University of the Philippines and absorbed a 1-3 loss in the second round of eliminations of the UAAP 78 women’s football tournament at the McKinley Stadium in Taguig on Saturday.
UP scored two goals in the last five minutes to pull away after a 1-all deadlock.
Sofi Dungca penetrated UST goalie Ivy Lopez’s defense in 86th minute for a 2-1 UP lead. Cassandra Alleje found the back of the net from a Cristina delos Reyes assist two minutes later.
UST relied on its solid defense and relentless offense in the first half. Nina Acuña registered the first goal with a lucky shot at the 12th minute.
The same defense, however, disappeared in the second half. UP’s Rose Obra scored an equalized in the 60th minute with an attack from the middle.
UST coach Priscilla Rubio rued her team’s lack of consistency.
“Same problem pa din eh.” Rubio told the Varsitarian. “Strong ang start, pero bibigay pagdating sa dulo.”
The loss kept the Lady Booters at the bottom of the standings with a 1-0-4 win-draw-loss card. They will face defending champions Far Eastern University on April 9 at the same venue.
