April 22, 2016, 11:45p.m. – THE UST Golden Booters absorbed a 0-4 beating against De La Salle University Archers but still secured a Final Four spot in the UAAP Season 78 men’s football tournament at the Ateneo de Manila Moro Lorenzo field Thursday (April 21).
UST booked a semifinals ticket, thanks to the University of the Philippines, which ousted former champion Far Eastern University earlier in the day.
Gelo Diamante gave La Salle a 2-0 edge at halftime after converting in the 14th and 38th minutes.
Archer Jhoguev Ybañez jacked up La Salle’s lead after converting a header from Jed Diamante’s corner kick in the 60th minute.
La Salle scored again 14 minutes later courtesy of Yoshi Koizumi’s header.
“Disappointed [ako sa game], pero at least lesson na rin ito para pagdating sa semifinals, alam na namin ‘yung kailangan namin,” UST head coach Marjo Allado said.
The Booters had a chance to chalk up a goal in the 47th minute but the attempt was called offside.
UST had other solid attempts in the 62nd, 64th, and 72nd minutes.
UST will face the University of the Philippines on Apr. 28 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. R. A. B. Ritumalta
