THE UST Lady Booters crashes out of the UAAP Season 78 women’s football tournament with a 1-4 beating from the Ateneo De Manila University at the McKinley Hill Stadium Saturday.
The Last Booters finished at the bottom of the standings for the second straight year.
The Lady Eagles fired a scoring blitz in the middle of the second half, finding the net three times within five minutes.
Maria Teresa Bernardo led Ateneo’s charge in the 71st minute scavenging a lose ball from a teammate’s free kick. She quickly scored another goal with an attack around the left wing in the 73rd minute.
Lady Eagle Marty Cinelle Bautista found the back of the net on a left wing volley two minutes later, 3-0.
Ateneo’s Antonette Amoncio scored the dagger inside the box in the 83rd minute from a long assist by Bernardo.
Shelah Mae Cadag put UST in the scoreboard in the 85th minute.
“Mataas ang performance ng team skills-wise [pero] nakukulangan ako sa puso at determination manalo. May mga players na nagdesisyon na tumigil lumaban [kahit] hindi pa tapos ‘yung laro,” UST head coach Priscila Rubio told The Varsitarian after the game.
The Lady Booters had two good chances to score before time expired in the first half, but neither found the back of the net.
Cadag managed to penetrate Ateneo’s left wing defense but her volley went over the bar in the 43rd minute.
