THE UST Shuttlers snapped their three-game skid after blasting Adamson University in the UAAP Season 79 badminton tournament at the Rizal Memorial Complex Sunday.

The Male Shuttlers shot down the Falcons, 5-0, while the Female Shuttlers carved out a 3-2 win.

The Male and Female Shuttlers improved to fourth and fifth place, respectively. Both now have 2-3 win-loss records.

“‘Pag alam nung player na superior sila,  relaxed ang player. Iyon ang kailangan kahit na malakas ang kalaban,” coach Noli Cajefe said.

Team captain Paul Pantig and John Edgardo Reyes thrashed Adamson’s Aldrin Paclibare and Jelo Iquina in the third game, 21-9, 21-11, for an early 3-0 advantage.

In women’s play, team captain Steffi Aquino and Airish Ann Macalino closed out the fourth match with a 21-14, 21-19 victory against Adamson’s Christine Garin and Allysa San Pedro.

The Shuttlers need two wins to secure a spot in the semifinals and avoid the playoff matches.

“Mas maganda kung manalo against FEU para sure na kami sa Final Four kapag tinalo namin Ateneo,” Cajefe added.

The UST Shuttlers will face Far Eastern University on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Rizal Memorial Complex. Ivan Ruiz L. Suing
