THE UST Growling Tigresses succumbed to the De La Salle University Lady Archers, 69-72, in the UAAP Season 79 women’s basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Arena Tuesday.

Down 69-70 with 36 seconds remaining, UST’s Candice Magdaluyo and Ann Gandalla missed potential go-ahead three-pointers before Camille Claro put La Salle up by three with two charities, 69-72.

Shanda Anies bricked a possible game-tying triple with less than three seconds to go.

“We did not execute the last quick possession. Sabi ko drive, nag-jumpshot sila,” Growling Tigresses head coach Haydee Ong told the Varsitarian.

The Tigresses took a 36-34 lead in the third quarter behind a 14-2 rally.

Snow Peñaranda paced the Lady Archers with 18 points while Kat Nuñez had 12.

Anies led UST with 18 markers while Magdaluyo and Misaela Larosa chipped in 11 apiece.

“Nakapag-adjust kami and we could have won the game despite the bad calls but ganyan talaga, hindi binigay sa atin ‘yung breaks of the game,” Ong said.

The Tigresses outrebounded La Salle, 53-33, but committed 31 turnovers compared to the Lady Archers’ 16.

UST will face defending champion National University on Saturday, 10 a.m., at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
