THE UST Shuttlers kept their semifinals hopes alive after prevailing over the Far Eastern University in the UAAP Season 79 badminton tournament at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex Wednesday.
Both the Male and Female Shuttlers pulled off 3-2 wins against the Tamaraws.
Down by two matches, the Male Shuttlers staged a furious comeback as Chris Sanchez took the win against FEU’s Justin Tercias in the fifth match, 21-12, 22-20.
In women’s play, the Lady Shuttlers stormed back from a 1-2 deficit as team captain Steffi Aquino hammered out a 21-14, 21-18 victory over Maridel Rivera.
Should they win their last match, the Male Shuttlers will rank fourth. The Lady Shuttlers will go through a playoff round to secure the last semis spot.
The Shuttlers will wrap up their elimination round campaign against the Ateneo de Manila University on Oct. 1, Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex. Ivan Ruiz L. Suing
