Nov. 27 2016, 5:58 p.m. – THE UST Junior Tiger Spikers survived a nail-biting five-setter against the Nazareth School of National University Bullpups, 25-22, 11-25, 21-25, 25-15, 15-13, to arrange a do-or-die Game 3 in the finals of the UAAP boys’ volleyball tournament at the Adamson University Gym Sunday.

After overcoming a 1-2 disadvantage with a fourth set win, the Junior Spikers fought toe-to-toe against the defending champions in the fifth set. UST captain Lorenz Señoron then fired back-to-back hits to punctuate his team’s come-from-behind victory.

UST pulled away from a 10-all deadlock in the fourth set with a 13-2 run to send the game into a decider.

“Sabi ko sa kanila noong fourth set, ‘Relax, ‘di tayo nape-pressure dapat kasi we are the challenger.’ ‘Yung mga players natin nagrelax, at ‘yung resiliency nila nagshow sa 4th and 5th set,” assistant coach Rommel Abella said.

UST registered 48 attacks, nine aces and eight blocks to pocket today’s victory.

Señoron led UST with 21 markers while Rey De Vega and Teo De Guzman added 15 and 11, respectively.

Señoron was named the Best Opposite Spiker while Jaron Requinton and Rey de Vega were awarded Second Best Middle Blocker and Best Server, respectively.

The Junior Spikers will try to dethrone the Bullpups on Nov. 30, Wednesday, at the same venue.
