TIGER Jin Isaiah Lorbes’ scored on a head kick and toppled La Salle’s Muhammad Omer, 4-2 , in the UAAP Season 80 taekwondo tournament opener at the Ateneo Blue Eagle gym Wednesday.
But UP zoomed to three quick wins before Maroon Joshua Lazaro sealed the win against UST’s Gian Rubio in the fourth game, 20-10.
In women’s play, the Lady Jins blazed past UE, before succumbing to UP.
UST easily won against UE after three Lady Warriors were disqualified due to overweight.
UST’s Bea Go received a hit in the torso from UP’s Katrina Gargoles that ultimately gave the win to the Lady Maroons in the 7th game.
“The team performed well pero syempre in every match there is always a better team. We will continue with the same game plan and we will try to maintain the wins with the remaining matches,” UST head coach Jasmine Simpao told the Varsitarian.
Taekwondo action will continue tomorrow as the Tiger Jins face Ateneo and Far Eastern University while the Lady Jins will battle La Salle and FEU at the same venue.
