THE NATIONAL University Bulldogs ended the UST Tiger Spikers’ eight-game winning streak with a 25-22, 18-25, 25-22, 25-20 victory in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the Arena in San Juan Sunday.

The Tiger Spikers (8-1) dropped to second place despite the being tied with the Bulldogs because of NU’s superior quotient.

Leading 22-19 in the fourth frame, NU ignited a 3-1 spurt, topped by Francis Saura’s quick kill to seal the match.

“Actually, [the loss] was not because of the blocks of NU, but their resiliency on the receives. Naba-block naman namin sila pero may coverage kasi sila tapos kami wala,” UST head coach Odjie Mamon said.

Bulldog Madzian Gampong’s quick kill in the third set allowed NU to take a commanding 2-1 set advantage, 25-22.

NU’s solid net defense yielded 12 blocks compared to the Tiger Spikers’ six.

Gampong led the Bulldogs with 15 points while Angelo Almendras and James Natividad added 10 markers apiece.

UST’s Genesis Redido led all scorers with 17 points. I.R.L. Suing
