THE UST Growling Tigers mauled the Cignal-Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, 112-98, in the Philippine Basketball Association Developmemtal League at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig Thursday.
The Tigers improved to a 3-0 win-loss card while the Blue Eagles slid to a 2-1 slate.
With Ateneo closing in, 73-69, in the third quarter, UST sparked a 12-5 blitz, capped by Mark Nonoy’s and-one to pull away for good.
“Ang mindset namin dito sa game is ma-gauge namin kung nasaan na kami. Good thing naglaro ng maayos ang mga bata and naka-recover kami sa mga lapses namin sa first quarter,” Tigers head coach Aldin Ayo said.
Down 21-34 early in the second frame, the UST rode a 28-12 torrent, topped by a Soulemane Chabi Yo jam, for a 49-44 lead in the 4:15 mark.
Nonoy erupted with 23 points and six rebounds for the Tigers, while Rhenz Abando added 21 markers. Chabi Yo had 20 points and nine boards.
Gian Mamuyac led Ateneo with 18 points, while Mike Nieto had 14 markers and 13 rebounds.
The Tigers will try to extend their winning streak against the Go-for-Gold-College of St. Benilde Blazers on March 19, Tuesday, 4 p.m. at the Paco Arena.
