THE UST Golden Tigresses swept the Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates, 25-18, 25-13, 25-21, in the Premier Volleyball League at the Arena in San Juan Sunday.

Janna Torres’ off-the-block hit ignited a 5-1 run allowing UST to pull away from a 17-all deadock in the third frame.

The Tigresses were down 7-8 in the opener but eventually took the set with a 4-0 blitz and rookie Joyce Abueg’s combination play.

The Tigresses carried the momentum going into the second set with an 8-2 run, aided by Pirate Princess Excija’s attack error, to grab a commanding 25-13 set.

UST dominated the blocking department with seven points while LPU only had three.

Imee Hernandez tallied nine points from five attacks, three blocks and an ace for the Tigresses.

Mady Joy Onofre posted nine points from six attacks, two blocks and an ace to lead the Lady Pirates.

The Tigresses will next face the De La Salle College of St. Benilde on August 25, Sunday, 10 a.m., at the same venue.
