The UST Golden Tigresses ended their unbeaten streak as they lost in four sets to the DLSU Lady Archers, 25-22, 25-27, 16-25, 21-25, in the quarterfinals of the Shakey’s Super League at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Sunday.

Back-to-back Xyza Gula kills gave UST the first set, 25-22.

DLSU rallied late in the second set and forced a deuce when rookie setter Cassie Caballo committed a costly service error. An Angel Canino crosscourt kill tied the game at one set apiece, 27-25.

The Lady Spikers dominated UST in the third set and used an 11-3 run to take a 2-1 lead, 25-16.

Both teams played catch up in the fourth set, 20-all, but DLSU pulled a 5-1 run to finally seal their win, 25-21.

Regina Jurado and Gula led the Tigresses with 12 points and 11 points respectively.

Angel Canino’s career high 25 points led DLSU to improve to a 2-0 standing in the quarterfinals, while the Tigresses dropped to 1-1.

UST’s first quarterfinals match against FEU Lady Tamaraws on Oct. 29 was cancelled due to Typhoon Paeng. The league has yet to announce the rescheduled games.  John Peter L. Cajayon
