The rookie-laden UST Golden Tigresses outlasted the UP Lady Maroons in a five-set thriller to advance in the Shakey’s Super League semifinals, 27-25, 26-28, 25-18, 22-25, 17-15, at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum on Sunday.

With both teams tied at 15-all in the deciding set, Xyza Gula and Regina Jurado led the Tigresses with back-to-back power kills to seal the win, 17-15.

It was a see-saw match as both teams exchanged their lead, 3-2.

Joan Monares made all of her six points in the fourth set to force a decider, 25-22.

In the third set, Monares made a costly service error and UP was called for an overreaching violation, letting the Tigresses have the set point advantage on which Gula converted a kill, 25-18.

After the Tigresses clinched the first set win, 27-25, UP came alive and took the second set as they pulled an 8-3 run, 28-26.

UST rookies Xyza Gula and Regina Jurado scored 20 points apiece.

Alyssa Bertolano led UP with 18 points, while Monares made 14 points.

The Tigresses will next face the undefeated NU Lady Bulldogs in the semifinals. The league has yet to announce the date.
