The UST Male Woodpushers continued to display their dominance after eking out a 2.5-1.5 victory over the Adamson Soaring Falcons in the Round 7 of the UAAP men’s chess tournament at the FEU Tech Gym on Sunday.

The UST Male Woodpushers accumulated a total of 23 points to lead the men’s division, while the Adamson Soaring Falcons remained at the bottom of the standings with 6.5 points. 

Julius Gonzales secured a win over Adamson’s Vince Arellano in 54 moves, while UST’s Antonio Almodal III remained undefeated since his game debut (3/3), after beating Alfonzo Louis Olendo in 60 moves. 

UST’s rookie Mark Gerald Reyes dropped his first loss against Adamson’s Matt Joseph Ramos, while Frederick Sunga and Lee Roi Palma settled for a draw. 

In the women’s play, the UST Lady Woodpushers suffered back-to-back losses after falling short against DLSU Lady Woodpushers, 1-3. 

UST’s lone win was from Jamaica Marie Lagrio after defeating DLSU’s Arena Fide Master Sara Francine Olendo in 33 moves. 

The UST Lady Woodpushers’ junior counterpart wrapped up the stage 1 of the juniors’ division with a 3-1 victory against the Adamson Baby Falcons, while the UST boys’ chess team succumbed to Adamson, 1-3. 

The UST Male Woodpushers will next face the FEU Tamaraws, while the UST Lady Woodpushers will go against Adamson Lady Falcons at the same venue on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m.
