The UST Golden Booters suffered their second straight loss after falling short against the blazing hot UE Red Warriors, 1-2, in the UAAP Season 85 men’s football tournament at the UP Diliman Football Stadium on Thursday.

UST team captain Daniel Nartey scored his first goal of the season to give the Golden Booters a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute.

But the Golden Booters made a costly handball violation that allowed UE’s Paolo Alovera to capitalize and score a goal from penalty in the 43rd minute.

Tied at 1-all at halftime, the Red Warriors broke the deadlock after an  Eldrin Madrid conversion in the 60th minute.

UST has now a 1-1-3 win-loss-draw slate and remained at the sixth spot of the standings, while UE capped off its first round campaign with a 3-3 win-draw record and emerged as the new league-leading.

The Golden Booters will wrap up their first round campaign against  the Adamson Soaring Falcons at the same venue on March 19, Sunday, at 4 p.m.
