The UST Golden Sox extended their losing streak to three after succumbing to the National University Bulldogs, 9-3, in the UAAP Season 85 men’s baseball tournament at the UP Diliman Baseball Field on Sunday.

With one out left for NU in the sixth inning, the Golden Sox allowed four straight homers from Bulldogs Kent Altajeros, Nigel Paule, Jude Maulit and Keishi Okamoto and go down, 3-8.

The Golden Sox could not recover after Altajeros hit a ground ball that led John Olazo to home plate, securing the win for NU, 9-3.

UST head coach Jeffrey Santiago was disappointed after the Golden Sox became too comfortable and missed their stops from the sixth inning.

‘Yung mga bata talaga wala sa focus. Nakaka-score pa rin sila kahit dalawang out na. Swerte na lang ang pag-asa namin,” UST head coach Jeffrey Santiago told the Varsitarian.

The Golden Sox cut the deficit to one in the third inning after Byran Camarsi’s homer, 3-4.

Team captain Migheil Cerda smashed a two-run shot into right field in the first inning to send John Barsales and Alwyn Piñero home, 2-1.

NU’s defense, powered by its pitcher Amiel De Guzman, held the Golden Sox scoreless from the fourth through the ninth inning.

The Golden Sox recorded five hits and five errors, while NU had 10 and eight, respectively.

UST dropped to a 0-3 win-loss slate, while NU tallied their first win with a 1-2 record.

The Golden Sox will look to bounce back against the defending champions De La Salle University Green Batters on Wednesday, March 22, 11:30 a.m., at the same venue.
