The UST Tiger Spikers made quick work of the Adamson Soaring Falcons, 25-21, 25-20, 25-15, in their UAAP Season 85 men’s volleyball tournament second-round opener at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan on Saturday.

The win improved UST’s record to 7-1, good for second place, while Adamson fell to a 1-7 slate. 

Josh Ybañez sent UST to set point in the first frame after a kill, 24-20. Francis Casas temporarily extended the set for Adamson, but Ybañez secured the first set for the Tiger Spikers after a crosscourt kill, 25-21. 

“Satisfied ngayon kasi we won in straight sets, kung maalala niyo, nightmare ‘yung first round namin against Adamson, five-setter siya. Happy ako sa performance nila lalo na ng mga middle,” UST head coach Odjie Mamon said after the game. 

Back-to-back kills by Edlyn Colinares and Lorenz Señoron won UST the second set, 25-20. 

A John Dedoroy explosion helped the Tiger Spikers complete the sweep, 25-15. 

Rainier Flor and Rey De Vega led UST with 12 points apiece. Josh Ybañez and Señoron had nine points apiece.

No Adamson player scored in double digits. 

The Tiger Spikers will next face the University of the East Red Warriors on Wednesday, March 29, 10 a.m. at the Mall of Asia Arena.
