The UST Tiger Spikers extended their winning streak to seven after pounding the DLSU Green Spikers in a tight four-setter, 25-21, 23-25, 30-28, 29-27, in the second round of the UAAP Season 85 men’s volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday.

The Tiger Spikers overcame 48 errors, 24 of which were service errors.

‘Puro errors, ang dami pero siyempre, a win is a win. Masaya at thankful pa rin kami,” UST head coach Odjie Mamon said after the game.

After Josh Ybañez converted a kill to send UST to set point in the first set, 24-21, DLSU’s John Mark Ronquillo committed a costly attack error to hand the Tiger Spikers a one-set advantage.

With both teams tied at 23-all in the second frame, Green Spiker Andre Espejo scored a service ace and Ronquillo converted a kill to allow DLSU to equalize, 25-23.

Dux Yambao finished an extended third set after blocking a Noel Kampton hit to give UST a two-set advantage, 30-28. The Tiger Spikers committed 16 errors in the set.

After six deadlocks, UST fended off the pesky Green Spikers as Rey De Vega’s loaded attack put an end to the match, 29-27.

UST improved to a 9-1 win-loss record good for second place.

Ybañez led UST with 25 points while De Vega chalked up 15 markers.

DLSU’s Ronquillo scored 20 points, while Kampton had 16.

The Tiger Spikers will next face the Ateneo De Manila Blue Eagles on April 15, 4 p.m., at the PhilSports Arena.
