The UST Golden Booters suffered their fifth loss in heartbreaking fashion after the UP Fighting Maroons escaped with a penalty conversion in stoppage time in the UAAP Season 85 men’s football tournament at the UP Diliman Football Stadium on Thursday.

UST team captain Jhon Azares committed a costly handball violation that gave the UP a chance to win in the final minute.

Fighting Maroon Karl Bugayong drilled the penalty kick in the 97th minute, allowing UP to stun UST and take home the win.

Both teams struggled to maneuver the ball throughout the game due to heavy rain. Golden Booter John Vistacion had an attempt in the 63rd minute blocked by UP goalkeeper Chevey Celeste.

UST fell to sixth place with 10 points built on a 3-1-5 win-draw-loss record, while UP, now with 11 points, grabbed the fifth spot with a 2-5-2 record.

The Golden Booters will next face the UE Red Warriors at the same venue on Thursday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m. John Peter L. Cajayon
