Two UST Tiger Judokas reaped two silver medals in the men’s and women’s wrestling competitions at the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

UAAP Season 85 men’s Most Valuable Player Chino Sy, and Lady Judoka Jeanmae Lobo took home silver medals in the men’s freestyle wrestling 97 kg category and women’s wrestling 72kg class, respectively.

Sy pinned down Lao’s Asien Thepphasouvanh in the preliminary round, but he lost to Cambodia’s Mo Sar in the finals, 1-4, to settle for silver in the SEA Games.

“’Di man ipinagpalang makapagkamit ng gintong medalya para sa bayan, ako ngayon ay mas gutom para sa susunod na SEA Games at pipilitin kong mas makapag improve,” Sy wrote in a Facebook post.

This is Sy’s first time competing in the wrestling tournament in the biennial meet. He first competed in the men’s sambo 82kg category in the 2019 SEA Games in Vietnam, where he clinched gold.

“For me, this was the hardest training I ever had preparing for a competition. Sinasabi ko nga sa ibang teammates ko na kakaiba ang wrestling,” he said.

In women’s play, UAAP judo bronze medalist Lobo bagged her first SEA Games medal after finishing second place

Lobo dominated Laos’s Phonexai Paosavat in the preliminary round to book her finals ticket, 4-0.

However, Lobo fell short against Cambodia’s Chea Kanha in the finals, 2-3.

The Philippine Wrestling Team finished in fourth rank with a 4-7-5 gold-silver-bronze medal tally.
