THE UST Sinag Ballroom Dance Company will shift its focus to other events as there will be no ballroom formation dance competition in UAAP Season 86 due to a lack of participating teams.

Robert Bertumen, president of UST Sinag, said the team was disappointed upon learning that there would be no ballroom competition in Season 86.

“Since walang UAAP, we were disappointed because it was something that we were looking forward to,” Bertumen told the Varsitarian.

“However, after a while, we realized na maraming opportunities to grow as dancesport athletes, so this off-season, we are focusing on putting ourselves out there by joining various outside open dancesport competitions.”

UST head coach Lowell Tan said that despite the cancellation of this year’s UAAP ballroom competition, the team remains intact.

“Right now, because it’s the off-season, I look for competitions for them to hone their skills and be exposed to other open competitions outside the UAAP,” Tan told the Varsitarian. “Intact pa rin ang team and madaming recruits.”

“Regardless if may UAAP or wala, expect the Sinag Ballroom Dance Company to always deliver and compete.”

UST, University of the Philippines, Adamson University and Far Eastern University were the only four schools that joined the ballroom competition in Season 85.

UST bagged two silvers and one bronze in the UAAP Season 85 Ballroom Formation Dance Competition.

UST Sinag is set to join the Philippine Superstar Open Dancesport Championship at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Feb. 17 and 18 and the Philippine Dancesport Federation First Quarter Ranking on April 5 and 6.
