UST dominates UAAP table tennis opening weekend

DEFENDING champions UST Tiger Paddlers remained unbeaten in four games to cap their UAAP season 82 opening weekend at the Blue Eagle Gym Sunday.

The Tiger Paddlers thwarted the Adamson University Falcons, 3-0, before securing another dominant 3-0 win against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons.

UST’s John Michael Castro and Alvin Sevilla posted wins over John Warren Polido and Paolo Monforte in singles matches, 11-5, 11-4, 4-12 and 11-5, 11-5, 11-6, respectively.

Tiger Paddler duo Mcleen Dizon and Odree Maldia foiled John Michael Lagorra and Jed Villaviray, 13-11, 11-8, 11-7.

In their second game, Castro and Sevilla secured wins over UP’s Timothy Cua and Christian George Victorio in their singles matches, 11-3, 11-7, 11-6 and 11-9, 11-5, 11-5, respectively.

UST tandem Dizon and Maldia overpowered Fighting Maroons Judah Elijah Cagas and Judah Elishah Cagas, 11-7, 6-11, 11-9, 12-10.

UST secured their first two victories versus the De La Salle University Green Archers, 3-2, and the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, 3-0, in their opening matches Saturday.

The España-based squad shared the top spot with the National University Bulldogs, both with unblemished win-lose slates.

The Tiger Paddlers will next face the Ateneo Blue Eagles and University of the East Red Warriors on Nov. 13, Wednesday at the same venue.
