Unbeaten UST Tiger Paddlers smash UE, Ateneo

REIGNING champions UST Tiger Paddlers extended their unbeaten streak with back-to-back wins in the UAAP Season 82 table tennis tournament at Blue Eagle Gym Wednesday.

The Paddlers triumphed over the University of the East Red Warriors in all three matches, before defeating the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles with another sweep.

Ang sabi ko sa team, stay grounded, kasi every game we start from scratch,” UST men’s team head coach Jackson Que told the Varsitarian

UST’s Paul Que and Alvin Sevilla won against Red Warriors Kazer Guzman and Sandro Paul Cortez in the single’s matches. 

Tiger Paddler duo Mcleen Dizon and Prince Karl Garcia outlasted UE tandem Kevin Muriel and Jomari Ingeniero with a 10-12, 11-8, 11-7 win in their doubles match. 

John Michael Castro and Sevilla routed Blue Eagles France De Asis and Mark Parman in the Paddlers’ second singles matches. 

Dizon and Garcia hammered Ateneo’s James Somontina and Bailey Acedera with a 11-7, 11-6, 11-6 victory in their doubles game.

The España-based squad shared the top spot with the National University Bulldogs. Both teams have 7-0 win-lose slates. 

“As of now, mayroon tayong plans sa mga players kung anong gagawin nila [laban sa NU]. Ma-execute lang nila ‘yong mga plans natin, malaki naman angchance nating manalo,” Que added. 

In women’s play, the UST Lady Paddlers posted two wins after securing a 3-0 sweep over the National University Lady Bulldogs and a 3-0 victory against the Adamson University Lady Falcons. 

The Tiger Paddlers will next face the National University Bulldogs while the Lady Paddlers seek another victory against the De La Salle University Green Archers on Nov. 14, Thursday at the same venue.
