THE UST Tiger Jins copped four medals in the 2019 Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships in Chuncheon City last July 4 to 10.

Lady Jins Aidaine Laxa and Jocel Ninobla broke the Philippines’ decade-long championship drought in the women’s under-30 team poomsae event after snagging gold, alongside former UAAP poomsae Most Valuable Player (MVP) Rinna Babanto.

Tiger Jin Darius Venerable also snatched gold in the men’s over-17 individual freestyle event. He then teamed up with Jeordan Dominguez and Marvin Mori for a bronze medal in the over-17 team freestyle category.

Former Tiger Jin and current assistant coach Rodolfo Reyes Jr. reigned supreme in the male recognized team category.

Venerable was named the tournament’s Best Freestyle Male Player.

“They represented the country and UST with the best of their abilities and lived up to very high standards. It’s a good thing to compete in international competitions like this so they can gain more knowledge and experience,” Tiger Jins head coach Rani Ortega told the Varsitarian.
