Pharmacy nips Science in Volley Intrams finals

DISPLAYING class and poise down the stretch, the Faculty of Pharmacy claimed the University’s Volleyball Intramurals plum against a gritty College of Science squad in a nerve-wracking five-set encounter, 23-25, 19-25, 25-12, 25-21, 15-11, last Nov. 21 at the UST gym.

Pharmacy’s resiliency paid dividends as it never gave up despite the strong start of Science, which took the first two sets.

UST Booters settle for a stand-off vs. Ateneo

DESPITE the stellar play of a returning key player, the UST Growling Booters lost steam in the crucial stages of the game to settle for a 1-1 draw against the Ateneo Blue Booters last Oct.30 at the Ateneo field.

Growling Booter Rodney Leyble, who sat out last year’s football competitions due to academic deficiencies, made a big splash in his return to action as he fired a goal straight to the Ateneo defense in the 11th minute to give UST the lead early in the first half.

Lady Booters play dark horse in UAAP

AFTER a spoiled return trip to the finals last year, the UST Lady Booters are out to redeem themselves.

Back-to-back losses to title protagonists Far Eastern University and De La Salle University in the most crucial stretch of the tournament last season proved the killer blow to the España-based squad’s spirited campaign as it ended up short in their finals bid and settled for third place.

Lady Booters outplayed by De La Salle

THE UST Lady Booters started the 64th UAAP Football season on the wrong foot as they yielded their opening game against De La Salle University, 1-0, last Nov. 28 at the Ateneo football field.

Hounded by the aggressive La Salle defense throughout the game, the Lady booters kept up in pace with Lady Archers game as they went for a standoff in the first half.

The Taft-based Lady Booters sustained their aggressiveness in the second half, working all-out on both ends of the field; offensively and defensively.

Lady Batters cream Lady Archers in opener, 18-0

WITHOUT even breaking a sweat, the title-hungry UST Lady Batters shut out De La Salle University, 18-0, in a smashing opening game statement of their UAAP softball campaign last Nov.27 at the UST field.

Sending a roaring message to the rest of the teams, the Tigresses blanked their hapless Taft-based counterparts in what seemed to be an overkill as the umpire stopped the game midway in the fifth inning.

Even the absence of UST Head Coach Sandy Barredo was hardly felt by the Lady Batters who outclassed their opponents in every aspect of the game.
