Oct. 9 2016, 1:46 p.m. – THE UST Junior Tiger Spikers zapped the De La Salle-Zobel Junior Spikers, 25-18, 25-16, 20-25, 25-18 in the UAAP Season 79 boys’ volleyball tournament at the Adamson University Gym Sunday.
UST took advantage of La Salle’s faulty floor with 48 attacks and 12 aces as the Junior Spikers improved to an 8-1 record.
Rey de Vega led UST with 14 points while team captain Lorenz Señoron and Soy Basilio had 11 kills apiece.
La Salle kept the fourth set close, 15-18, but UST uncorked a 7-3 run, highlighted by a kill from de Vega.
“We gave an opportunity for our second six to play in the third set. Okay naman nung una but unfortunately hindi nila na-sustain ‘yung momentum. This is a lesson for us coming to our next games,” assistant coach Rommel Abella told the Varsitarian.
After dropping the first two sets, La Salle overcame a 5-15 deficit with 20-5 run to prevent a shutout loss.
The Junior Tiger Spikers will face the University of the East on Oct. 15, Saturday.
