THE UST Golden Tigresses walloped the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons to arrange a playoff for a semifinal spot in the 13th Shakey’s V-League Reinforced Conference at the Philsports Arena Monday.
Carla Sandoval chalked up 14 points while EJ Laure chipped in 13 to UST’s 28-26, 25-19, 25-18 win over UP. The Tigresses, unbeaten in four games, are at first place.
“Tumatama na ang mga errors namin sa atake, sa receiving. ‘Yung first ball namin nagiging stable na,” head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes said in an interview.
The Tigresses shrugged off a sluggish first set and slammed the door on UP in the third set with a 7-3 run, capped by a cross court attack from Chloe Cortez.
UST will face Alyssa Valdez and the Bureau of Customs Transformers on Saturday, October 15, 4 p.m., at the same venue.
Reyes said the Tigresses were excited to slug it out with the former three-time UAAP MVP.
“Mas maganda para sa amin ‘yun. ‘Yun na nga ang gusto namin, mga mas malalakas na kalaban, ‘yung matututo kami sa kanila,” Reyes said.
