Oct. 23 2016, 4:35 p.m. – THE UST Junior Golden Tigresses whipped the De La Salle-Zobel Junior Lady Spikers, 25-22, 25-21, 20-25, 25-21, in the UAAP Season 79 girls’ volleyball tournament at the Adamson University Gym Sunday.
UST registered 52 attacks, six blocks and six aces to improve to an 8-2 record.
Trailing by a point in the final set, 18-19, the Junior Tigresses arrived at match point off a 6-2 rin before team captian Eya Laure’s service ace sealed the game.
“Errors pa rin ‘yung pumapatay sa amin [kaya umabot sa fourth set.] At the same time, may factor ‘yung pagkatalo namin sa NU kahapon,” UST head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes Jr. said in an interview with the Varsitarian.
Laure led UST with 22 points while Baby Love Barbon added 13 markers.
Zobel, leading by just a one point midway through third set, rode on 10-6 run to prevent the sweep.
The Junior Lady Spikers kept it close in the second set, 21-23, but UST scored back-to-back hits for the 2-0 set advantage.
UST will face the Far Eastern University on Nov. 5, Saturday, 2:30 p.m., at the same venue.
