THE UST Junior Tigresses will again see action in the finals after pounding the De La Salle-Zobel Junior Lady Spikers, 25-19, 25-22, 24-26, 25-18, in the semifinals of the UAAP Season 79 girls’ volleyball tournament at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion Thursday.

UST will try to end National University’s two-year reign as both teams face off in the finals for the fourth consecutive season.

The first time the two teams fought in the finals was in 2013, when the Junior Tigresses emerged as champions.

In the game versus La Salle-Zobel, reigning MVP Eya Laure powered UST with 19 points, 11 coming from kills, while rookie Baby Love Barbon made 10 markers.

La Salle threatened to force a deciding set after a 7-0 run that cut a 9-point deficit to two, 14-16. But UST retaliated with an 8-3 blitz for the win. UST committed 43 errors.

Seventeen came from the third set, allowing La Salle to stretch the match to a fourth set.

Vanessa Gandler led La Salle with 10 points.

UST will face the Lady Bullpups in a best-of-three finals showdown on Nov. 25.

“Marami kaming binibigay na puntos kaysa sa ginagawa namin. ‘Yun ang kailangan naming mabago at siguradong makakasabay kami sa National University,” head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes Jr. said. Jan Carlo Anolin
