NU takes Game 1 vs UST Junior Spikers

Nov. 25 2016, 8:40 p.m. – THE NAZARETH School of National University Bullpups drew first blood against the UST Junior Spikers, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 23-25, 9-15, in Game 1 of the finals of the UAAP Season 79 boys’ volleyball tournament at the Adamson University gym Friday.

NU fired 54 attack points to close in on a possible back-to-back championships.

With the game tied at 5-all in the last set, the Bullpups rode on an 8-3 run to erect a 13-8 lead.

“Happy kami sa effort ng mga players natin. Unfortunately, ‘yung errors did us in. Kung na-minimize natin sana especially on the second set, it could have been [three] straight sets,” UST assistant coach Rommel Abella told the Varsitarian.

The Junior Spikers registered 70 attack points but committed 38 unforced errors.

Rey de Vega fired 29 points for UST while Jhun Señoron and Jaron Requinton added 13 and 11 markers, respectively.

Billie Jean Anima led NU with nine points.

UST will try to win Game 2 to force a rubber match on Nov. 27, 4 p.m., at the same venue.
