THE NATIONAL University Bulldogs swept a listless UST Tiger Spikers, 25-23, 25-18, 25-19, in the UAAP Season 79 men’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Arena in San Juan Wednesday.
Trailing 12-13 in the third set, the Bulldogs pulled away with a 12-4 spurt to arrive at match point, 24-17, before NU team captain Francis Saura sealed the win with a quick hit.
NU tallied seven service aces against the Tiger Spikers’ one. The Bulldogs also had 10 blocks while UST recorded five.
“Hindi nag-exert ng effort ‘yung players. Hindi ko alam kung anong mentality nila,” UST head coach Odjie Mamon told the Varsitarian.
Late in the second set, UST cut NU’s lead to five, 23-18, but the Bulldogs retaliated with two quick points to grab a 2-0 set lead.
Saura and Fauzi Ismail paced NU with 12 points apiece while Manuel Medina led the Tiger Spikers with 10 markers.
The Tiger Spikers, who fell to a 3-3 record, will face the Far Eastern University Tamaraws on Mar. 4, 8 a.m., at the Mall of Asia Arena.
