THE UST Junior Tigers Spikers hammered the University of the East Junior Red Warriors, 19-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-17, for their second win in the UAAP Season 80 boys’ volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan Sunday.
UST pulled away in the fourth frame with a 12-4 blitz capped by Efraem Dimaculangan’s drop.
With UST leading 23-21, a block by Tiger Spiker Julianne Solis’ and a service error from UE allowed the Tiger Spikers to take the set.
“Nung natalo kami nung first set, I guess naging wake-up call na rin sa kanila ‘yun na hindi nila pwede basta-bastahin ang UE,” UST assistant coach Rommel Abella said.
Already ahead 18-17 in the second frame, UST went on a 7-2 run capped by a service error from UE’s Lloyd Josefat.
Jaron Requinton led UST with 15 points while Rey De Vega added 12 markers.
Josefat paced UE with 14 markers in a losing effort.
The Tiger Spikers will next face the Adamson University Baby Falcons on Sept. 24, Sunday 2 p.m. at the same venue.
