THE UST Junior Golden Tigresses stayed undefeated after hammering the Adamson University Baby Lady Falcons, 25-23, 25-16, 25-11, in the UAAP Season 80 girls volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan Monday.

The Junior Tigresses improved to a 5-0 win-loss card for first place alongside the Nazareth School of National University Lady Bullpups.

UST put the game away with a 20-5 blast in the third frame, capped by a drop by Imee Hernandez. Baby Falcon Gracelchen Ave’s service error gave the Junior Tigresses their fourth straight-set win of the season, 25-11.

The Junior Tigresses opened the second frame with a 22-8 onslaught, but errors hounded them throughout the set. An off-speed hit from Renren Peñafiel gave UST a 2-0 advantage.

UST head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes Jr. said his team needed to improve their reception in order to deliver good attacks.

Adamson tied the first set at 23-all after UST committed three errors. Lady Falcon Maphy Sevalla’s service error finished off a two-point swing for UST, 25-23.

The Junior Tigresses utilized Adamson’s poor floor defense after tallying 13 aces compared to the Lady Falcons’ six.

Laure led everyone in scoring with 13 points while Hernandez and Peñafiel combined for 16 markers.

Ave paced Adamson with 11.

UST committed 24 errors, half of it coming from the first set, while Adamson had 16.

The Junior Tigresses will put their unbeaten streak on the line against rivals Lady Bullpups on Oct. 7, Saturday, 2 p.m., at the same venue.
