THE UST Junior Tiger Spikers hammered the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eaglets, 25-13, 25-14, 25-22, in the UAAP Season 80 boys’ volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan Wednesday.

After losing their opening game, the Junior Tiger Spikers won their fifth-straight match and improved to a 5-1 slate.

With the third set tied at 22-all, the Junior Tiger Spikers finished the job with a three-point swing sealed by Charles Segui’s crosscourt kill to finish the game.

UST unleashed a 13-3 run early in the second set as Rey de Vega’s down-the-line kill gave the Junior Spikers a commanding 2-0 set lead.

“Consistency naman ang hinahanap namin sa kanila kasi alam naman namin ang ginagawa namin. Today, nag-showcase ‘yung gusto namin na kapag nag-run kami, dire-diretso,” UST assistant coach Rommel Abella said.

With a slim 16-13 lead in the first set, UST sizzled with a 9-0 run highlighted by team captain Lorenz Señoron’s crosscourt attack to grab an early advantage, 25-13.

De Vega led all scorers with 12 points while Señoron chipped in 10 markers.

Kurt Aguilar led Ateneo with seven points.

UST will end the first round against defending champions Nazareth School of National University Bullpups on Oct. 8, Sunday, 4 p.m., at the same venue.
