THE UST Junior Tiger Spikers crumbled against the Far Eastern University Baby Tamaraws, 29-27, 23-25, 16-25, 23-25, in the UAAP Season 80 boys’ volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan Wednesday.

FEU was trailing 14-16 in the fourth set when it unleashed a 10-5 spurt capped by a through-the-block hit from Jose Javelona to reach set point. A blocking error by UST team captain Lorenz Señoron ended the match, 25-23.

“I guess it was overconfidence. Based doon sa mga practices namin, hindi naman ganun (ang talagang laro nila) kaya nagtaka kami kanina kung bakit napakalamya ng laro namin,” UST assistant coach Rommel Abella said.

The Tams surged to a 20-11 lead in the third set and never looked back as a Benny Martinez drop shot gave FEU a 2-1 set advantage.

With the second set tied at 23-all, FEU scored two quick points on Fredrick Calado’s off-the-block hit and a UST error.

UST took the first set after Rey de Vega’s down-the-line kill and a Tamaraw error, 29-27.

Calado led all scorers with 19 points while Angelbert Navas hammered 12 markers for FEU.

Señoron had 17 points for the Junior Spikers.

UST will face the University of the Philippines Integrated School on Nov. 5, Sunday, 9:30 a.m., at the same venue.
