Iriga City hands Golden Tigresses 6th loss

THE IRIGA City Oragons thrashed the Victoria Sports-UST Golden Tigresses, 25-19, 25-21, 25-20, in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at the Arena in San Juan Thursday.

Iriga improved to a 2-4 record while the Tigresses remained winless in six games.

The Tigresses led 16-12 in the third set before Iriga ignited a 13-4 run.

“Akala namin amin na ‘yun (third set) kasi ang laki ng lamang. Pagdating sa dulo, landslide na naman kami. Ang dami naming errors at lapses na hindi naman dapat,” UST head coach Paul Jan Doloiras said.

The Oragons overcame a three-point deficit in the second canto with a 15-4 blast for a 2-0 set lead, 25-21.

Back-to-back kills from Joyce Sta. Rita and Tamara Kmezic gave Iriga the first set, 25-19.

The Tigresses scattered 25 errors while Iriga had 15.

Kmezic exploded with 20 points while Janine Lana and Saam Miyagawa combined for 16 markers.

Carla Sandoval had 14 points for UST.

Up next for the Tigresses are the Foton Tornadoes on Nov. 28, Tuesday, 7 p.m., at the same venue.
